As an early supporter of “visual grouping” of servers, our standard groupings are Production, Staging and Test. From early 2016, our visual grouping capability will be further enhanced through support for tags, allowing for further ease of customization in the grouping and reporting of cloud resources.

THE POWER OF RESOURCE GROUPS
In our example, as with most organizations, the greatest source of underutilized RI’s are those reserved for testing. RI Coverage targets and the type of RI Server Fleets that are highly variable and may have a lower coverage target, are likely to differ somewhat by organization.
A significant advantage of creating resource groups with CloudMGR is that more static server workloads, such as Production, can be grouped and optimized for availability. Conversely, resources subject to significant fluctuations in demand can be optimized to yield considerable cost savings.
