In case you missed it, we've prepared a quick recap of the recent AWS Partner ConneXions event, including what we thought were the most important slides, as well as links to the full list of 7 Mega-Trends for APN Partners and the presentation slides.

Over the last two weeks, AWS has toured Australia with the Partner Connexions roadshow, stopping in Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.

The headline speakers for the Brisbane roadshow were Partner Manager, Sarah Johnson and Solutions Architect, Mike Freeman. A major highlight was an in depth look at the Cloud Journey of construction and mining company, WATPAC. Account Manager Paul Woodward presided over a conversation with WATPAC CIO David Rose and James Kahn, Managing Director of Consulting Partner, Idea11, who are assisting WATPAC with their migration to AWS. 

The event also featured lighting talks on AWS Training and Certification from Senior Technical Trainer, John Balsillie, an Intro  to the AWS Partner Network from Development Manager, Yves Manigart and a presentation on Unified Cloud Management & Optimization for AWS Partners from CloudMGR CEO, Craig Deveson 

1. AWS ANZ Customer/ Partner Success Stories

Partner Manager, Sarah Johnson, opened strongly with her Keynote, Cloud is the New Normal “The Partner Opportunity". The Keynote centred on providing the Partners in attendance with key feedback from AWS customers on what they need from Partners. 


Under the broader heading of "What are customer's asking for, Sarah included the 5 qualities most valuable to customers in an AWS Partner: 

1. Agility 
2. Decisiveness, leading with an AWS first attitude

3. Providing Value Added services at all levels of the engagement with the customer
4.Possessing deep skills in their respective area of expertise 
5. Embracing New Business Models, whether that be next-gen MSP, SaaS or the AWS Marketplace.

2. AWS ANZ Customer/ Partner Success Stories 

In his introduction to the Brisbane leg of Partner Connexions, Partner Development Manager, Gavin Douglas, mentioned a number of AWS customer success stories, facilitated by Partners from across Australia and New Zealand. The case studies are available on Amazon's Customer Stories page and include Itoc, helping Present Group move its ERP system and associated database server into AWS.


3The AWS IoT Stack

Mike Freeman presented a Keynote, Introducing AWS IoT: Interfacing with the physical world. A highlight of this awesome presentation, aside from a live demo of Amazon Echo, was this slide, showing  the AWS IoT stack that Mike used to control the brightness of phone screens in the room; in a manner similar to which streetlights in a city can be controlled with AWS IoT.


The AWS IoT Stack: Amazon Cognito, Amazon CloudFront, Amazon S3 Bucket.

4. 7 Mega-Trend Opportunities for Partner Success

Sarah's Keynote was bookended by a section of the 7 Opportunites for Partner Success. You can read about the 7 Opportunities for Partner Success in further detail in this blog post.


5. Joining the APN is only the beginning  

Yves Manigart, Partner Development Manager, AWS, gave the final presentation of the day, Intro to the AWS Partner Network, which included this great slide illustrating the journey for AWs partners.
